About Us

The exterior of Elks Lodge with people gathered on the steps.
The exterior of Elks Lodge with people gathered on the steps.

Lodge 96 has been anchoring West Liberty Street for well over a century, and the proof is in the packed barstools. Ask anyone who's spent a Friday evening here and they'll tell you the same thing: Dave behind the bar makes the difference. His pour is steady, his banter is sharper, and regulars treat his shift like a standing appointment.

The lodge draws a crowd that spans generations, from longtime Elks members who remember when Rome's mills were still running to younger neighbors who discovered the Friday fish fry and never left. Every Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. the kitchen opens to the public, serving a full menu alongside a fish fry that holds its own against anything in Oneida County.

This is a members-driven organization, which means events, rentals, and dining are shaped by people who actually live here. If you're curious about joining or hosting an event, the best move is to stop in on a Friday and talk to someone face to face. The community answers faster in person than by phone.

What We Offer

The Friday night fish fry is the headline act, running every Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and open to the public. The full menu runs alongside it, so non-fish eaters aren't left out. Portions are honest, prices are fair, and the bar is open.

Beyond Friday dinners, Lodge 96 hosts member events, charitable fundraisers, and private gatherings throughout the year. Members can reserve the hall for parties, receptions, and club meetings. Note that non-member event rentals require a member to serve as host, so the first step is connecting with someone inside the lodge.

Membership in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks opens the door to everything else: weekly social events, access to the bar and lounge, participation in community service programs, and the full calendar of lodge activities that keep Rome, NY on the Elks national map.

"I attempted to rent a room for a baby shower. It took nearly two weeks to get a phone call back from anyone and when I did I was told a member had to host the party. They wouldn't even give me pricing. Went to another Elks lodge and reserved my party with ease. Not only was it easier to reserve elsewhere, I was offered a catering menu and other services by a very helpful employee. I do not recommend this location if you're not a member. Not worth the hassle."

"They have lots of events open to the public during the spring and summer but mainly a private organization. Everyone's welcome but you must pay membership fees and participate in activities."

The Elks gave America
Flag Day.

Long before it was a national observance, the Order set aside June 14th to honor the flag. Patriotism has always been one of our cardinal principles, and every lodge meeting still closes the same way it has for over a century.
